Experimental investigation of VOC influence on cognitive function at low concentration in a full-fresh air environmental chamber

چکیده
Indoor air quality (IAQ) influences individual physical and mental health. Laboratory studies conducted in environmental chambers have shown that IAQ parameters such as temperature, humidity, CO 2 , volatile organic compounds (VOCs) may impact participants’ productivity cognitive performance. To better understand the influence of VOC at low concentration on function, this study applied a controlled chamber with full fresh system high airflow rate (1443 m 3 /h total). Toluene, typical commonly found Chinese domestic environment, was evaporated, mixed main supply duct before being sent into chamber. Neurocognitive tasks, electroencephalogram (EEG) were used to evaluate function health participants under different toluene exposure levels. Results factors reflected advantage high-airflow-rate background factor control, which is essential for research aiming indoor pollutants concentrations. The experiment results indicated recommended level World Health Organization (WHO), 0.26 mg/m did not lead discomfort or significant decline task performance but triggered changes EEG power density patterns.

متن کاملExperimental Investigation of Operating Room Air Distribution in a Full-Scale Laboratory Chamber Using Particle Image Velocimetry and Flow Visualization
Room air distribution in hospital operating rooms (OR) is critical to the effective functioning of surgical procedures, but the air distribution patterns are governed by complex physics that are currently not well understood. Both qualitative and quantitative flow visualization techniques were used to evaluate the room air distribution in a full-scale chamber designed to simulate a hospital ope...
متن کاملExperimental study and application of computational fluid dynamics on the prediction of air velocity and temperature in a ventilated chamber
The shape of the air flow in the interior is heavily influenced by the air distribution system and the way air enters and exits. By numerically simulating flow by computational fluid dynamics, one can determine the flow pattern and temperature distribution and, with the help of the results, provide an optimal design of the air conditioning system. In this study, a chamber was first constructed ...
متن کاملcritical period effects in foreign language learning:the influence of maturational state on the acquisition of reading, writing, and grammar in english as a foreign language
since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...
